Dr Bruce Hulme is a freelance wisdom educator, consultant, retreat curator, spiritual director and professional supervisor, specialising in reflective practice. He hails from country NSW but now lives in Adelaide with his wife Sonia. Together they have five children.
Bruce has experience in and a heart for the breadth of expressions of the Christian church. After over 12 years in various Lutheran ministry contexts, Bruce developed as spiritual director, practical theologian, researcher and educator at Tabor College, Adelaide (2008-2023). He was the Head of the Ministry, Spiritual Direction and Chaplaincy & Spiritual Care programs during his time there. Bruce holds a BSc (Ma) and Grad Dip in Education (Adelaide University), a BTh and Grad Dip in Ministry (Tabor College), a Grad Cert in Professional Supervision (Pastoral) (Charles Sturt University) and a PhD (Flinders University) in practical theology and Christian formation. Bruce’s PhD (2021), Talking the Walk, developed a simple yet deep way to contemplatively discern what God is up to in the journey of an individual or community, and courageously join in, for the flourishing of self, others and God’s world. His areas of expertise include Christian reflective practice, formation, spirituality, spiritual direction and pastoral/spiritual care. Bruce continues to be passionate about helping others ‘talk the walk’ in ways that cultivate deep, reflective, and congruent living, so they can more faithfully 'walk the talk'. His approach to individual and groupwork is founded upon the potency of vulnerability, hospitality and mutuality in the human encounter, so that others engage with not only what he knows, but also with who he is. Amidst the tumultuous change in culture and the church, and given his extensive background, Bruce now senses a unique call to come alongside individuals and communities as a soulful, robust and practical presence that cultivates reflective practice and formation for God’s good life. |
